Results of working group meetings in September 2003 in Amsterdam.
In September 2003 three working groups gathered again in Amsterdam. Antares Foundation and CDC decided to organize specialist working group meetings instead of a larger forum in order to be able to develop the agenda further for the working conference in 2004.
The working group on research is designing a longitudinal study on the effects of the humanitarian work on the mental status of the fieldworker. Six universities from Europe and the United States are involved in this. The Antares Foundation is coordinating and facilitating this research.
The working group minimum standardsdesigned in this meeting a first draft.
Though some representatives from INGO’s were present, we miss the input of the (I)NGO’s. After all they are the ones to implement the staff care, so we need some reflection, feedback and recommendation from the people and organizations that are really working in the field in order to know whether these standards are feasible.
A third working group model building, has just started and is closely connected to the minimum standards. The chairperson of this working group used the opportunity to have a structured brainstorm session in preparation of the new activity.
(The model to be designed should serve the NGO’s willing to implement the standards. The model will give tools and ideas how to build a stress management system within the management system of the organization.)
For further details of any of these activities, please contact the Antares Foundation
